TECHNOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENT
The documents available concern mainly experiences had in consulting activities
during the period 1999-2004 in favour of the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola
about technological choice for collection and disposal of urban waste in the
context of evolution of their differentiated collection. The adopted methods
allowed this province to reach one of the highest rate of differentiated collection
of urban waste in Italy. There are also arguments concerning industrial pollution
control and introduction of environmental compatible technologies taking account
of the continuing evolution of regulations in this field.
Section concerning working documents contains a written about relations existing between technology and environment examined from the point of view of technology. This work would show that a certain type of environmentalism, with the objective to protect nature and eliminate pollution, take positions, directly but even more indirectly, against science and technology promoting in the society mistrust on the fact that technology may solve, or at least try to solve, the existing environmental problems. The result is that such environmentalism restrains the search of technological solutions to many problems in a moment when it is required a great amount of creativity by the society to face them. The second document concerns the problems of introduction of new environmental technologies in the technological system considered as an ecosystem with interacting technologies. In this work there is a first approach to a model of technological ecosystem able to describe competition among new and old technologies. It is shown that the economy of a new technology is essentially dependent on the ecosystem in which it is introduced. That is in contrast with common negative opinion about new environmental technologies also in reason of limits to make any valid forecasting in the medium and long term on technology evolution.
Collected publications concern mainly article in the field of environmental technologies and disposal of waste presented to the ECOMONDO Conferences, the most important Italian event in this field that is hold annually at Rimini and few other articles published on environmental journals.
About reports and books there is a thesis sustained at the Faculty of Economy of the University of Eastern Piedmont about technologies of disposal of urban waste, based mainly on the experience had in Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, and a collection of conferences and articles, already cited in the technological innovation section, and containing articles about environmental topics.
